The King Who Restores

Sermon Video

Matthew 21:6–9

The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them… the crowds… were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”

On Palm Sunday, Jesus enters Jerusalem riding on a donkey—not with political power but with humble authority. The crowd shouts praise. Scripture is quoted. Branches wave. But they don’t fully see Him.

They wanted a fixer, not a Savior. A King to crush Rome—not one who would confront their sin.

We still do this. We cheer for a Jesus who blesses our goals, not one who changes our hearts. We want a consultant, not a King.

But Jesus restores more than our image of Him—He restores us. He reclaims our obedience. The disciples didn’t wait for full clarity—they simply did what He said. That’s the response of restored authority: surrender without conditions.

He also restores our worship. Not a genre or a feeling—but a life laid down.

Worship isn’t about our preferences. It’s about His worth.

Palm Sunday reminds us: Jesus didn’t come to fit our expectations—He came to transform them.
