Matthew 7:24

24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

 

 

POINT 1: Jesus doesn’t just want your attention — He wants your obedience.

Matthew 7: 24

24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

 

 

POINT 2: The storm will come — and when it does, the cracks will show.

Matthew 7: 25

25a And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house,

 

 

POINT 3: Homes that survive are built on regular, surrendered obedience.

25b but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.

APPLICATION 1: Lead your home toward obedience, not just appearance.

Proverbs 14:11

11 The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.

 

 

APPLICATION 2: Build in rhythms that strengthen the structure.

Psalm 127:1

1 Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

 

 

APPLICATION 3: Choose obedience even when it’s inconvenient.

Luke 6:46

46 “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?

 

 

A family that hears Jesus might look spiritual. But a family that obeys Jesus — because of the gospel — will stand forever.
